Heat Dome to Bring Triple-Digit Temperatures Across Central US
A new heat dome is expected to settle over the central United States this weekend and persist into next week, impacting over 50 million residents from Texas to North Dakota, according to AccuWeather forecasts. Texas is already experiencing dangerously high heat index values exceeding 105°F (40.6°C), prompting heat advisories from the National Weather Service. Northern-central states like Kansas and Nebraska saw brief relief on Thursday after earlier triple-digit temperatures, but more hot and humid air is forecast to return. Temperatures are expected to spike above 100°F (37.8°C) in states such as Missouri, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wyoming, while surrounding regions will experience highs in the 80s and 90s. July, typically the hottest month of summer, is seeing intensified heat due to human-caused climate change, which is also increasing the frequency and severity of heat domes.
