Russell Vought's Regulatory Changes Could Transform Federal Funding into Patronage System
Russell Vought, a key figure in the Trump administration, has proposed significant changes to federal funding regulations through Project 2025. These changes, detailed in over 100 pages of new rules, would alter how federal funds are allocated to states, nonprofits, and research institutions. The proposed regulations would require recipients to align with the executive branch's agenda, potentially affecting infrastructure projects, emergency management, cultural arts, and scientific research. The University of Alaska and other organizations have expressed concerns, particularly about the elimination of peer review and international collaboration, as well as the increased bureaucratic burden. Despite over 90,000 public comments opposing the changes, the Office of Management and Budget is not obligated to heed these objections.
