Conducted by researchers from several Chinese institutions, the study involved 90 treatment-naïve patients with early-stage LUAD. The researchers collected tumor tissue, adjacent non-tumor tissue, and plasma samples to analyze the genomic distribution and clinical relevance of eccDNA. The findings revealed that eccDNAs from recurrent tumors exhibited higher GC content and were derived from transcriptionally active genomic regions. These eccDNAs were associated with cancer-related pathways and immune signaling alterations. The study identified 2,387 eccDNAs in plasma samples linked to recurrence, leading to the development of a recurrence risk model based on seven genes. This model effectively distinguished patients with different disease-free survival outcomes.
