President Tinubu Expands Nigerian Army to 12 Divisions, Approves 28,000 Recruits
President Bola Tinubu has authorized the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions, alongside the recruitment of 28,000 additional military personnel. This strategic move aims to decentralize command, enhance border security, and improve response times to emerging threats across Nigeria. The expansion is part of a broader security investment that includes acquiring critical military platforms and equipment, improving troop welfare, and supporting operational readiness and force modernization. The initiative will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase expected to conclude by September 2026 and the second by December 2026. The expansion will see new divisional headquarters established in various regions, enhancing the army's operational capabilities.
