DC Attorney General Reviews George Washington University Asset Transfer to Universal Health Services
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Washington, D.C., led by Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb, is reviewing a proposed transfer of assets from The Medical Faculty Associates, Inc. (MFA) to Foggy Bottom Physician Group (FBPG), a nonprofit controlled by Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS). This review, mandated by the Healthcare Entity Conversion Act (HECA), aims to ensure the preservation of nonprofit healthcare resources in the District. The MFA, a nonprofit associated with The George Washington University, is set to transfer its assets to FBPG, a new nonprofit created by UHS for this transaction. UHS, a for-profit corporation, has agreed to pay a $610,000 fine for delays in the review process. The OAG will continue its review until at least September 30, 2026, to determine if the transaction aligns with the nonprofit's mission of providing affordable healthcare.
