Lawmakers Request Pentagon Information on USS Abraham Lincoln Conditions Amid Concerns
Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander, alongside Representatives Joe Courtney and Wesley Bell, has led a group of 52 lawmakers in formally requesting immediate information from the Department of Defense regarding the conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. This request stems from reports detailing poor living conditions, food shortages, and mental health concerns affecting the crew. The USS Abraham Lincoln and its crew have been at sea for over eight months, including 208 days without a port call, and its deployment has been extended twice. These prolonged conditions have raised significant questions about the readiness of the carrier and the overall well-being of its sailors. The lawmakers are urging the Pentagon to provide additional resources, implement safeguards for sailors' mental health, improve communication with families and the public, and establish new procedures for future long deployments. Goodlander emphasized that this issue falls under broader congressional oversight of military operations.
