India Condemns Attacks on Ships in Hormuz, Calls for De-escalation in West Asia
India has expressed strong condemnation of recent attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in West Asia. During a United Nations Security Council debate, India's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted the resumption of hostilities in the region as deeply concerning. The attacks, which affected Indian nationals, have disrupted free navigation through international waterways. India emphasized the importance of restoring free and unimpeded navigation in accordance with international law. The country also urged the international community to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the need for a sovereign and independent State of Palestine living peacefully alongside Israel.
