University of Wisconsin-Madison's WSUM Named Nation's Top Student Radio Station
WSUM, the student-run radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been recognized as the nation's top college radio station for institutions with over 10,000 students, and the best overall station by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS). This achievement was announced during the station's 24th-anniversary celebration. WSUM broadcasts 24 hours a day on 91.7 FM in Madison and offers three online streams, including one for sports and Badger athletics coverage, and another for diverse music. The station operates with 17 hourly student workers in key roles and approximately 230 volunteers, mostly students, who host one-hour shows. Volunteers undergo extensive training in production skills, federal broadcasting rules, and station policies before proposing shows. WSUM's programming is diverse, featuring music, news, talk, sports play-by-play, podcasts, blog posts, and live studio concerts.
