EF-1 Tornado Strikes Ann Arbor, Causing Damage to School and Park
Early Wednesday morning, an EF1 tornado swept through Ann Arbor, Michigan, causing significant damage to local infrastructure. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado touched down at approximately 1:44 a.m. near Jackson Avenue and Interstate 94, reaching wind speeds of up to 110 mph. The tornado moved southeast, crossing the interstate and impacting Veterans Memorial Park, where it uprooted trees and downed stadium light poles. The Ann Arbor Fire Department reported that the east wall of the park's ice area collapsed due to the storm. Additionally, part of the metal roof of the University of Michigan's Yost Arena was damaged, and roofing material was blown off the home of the Michigan Wolverines hockey team. The tornado lifted around 1:46 a.m. after traveling approximately 1.7 miles.
