Stevensville's Abandoned Anstey Foundry Slated for Demolition with Federal Grant Support
The abandoned Anstey Foundry in Stevensville, Michigan, is set to be demolished and the site cleaned up for new development, following a significant grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Village of Stevensville received $733,250 as part of the Midwest Brownfields Initiative to facilitate this project. The Anstey Foundry, a manufacturing facility built in the 1940s, has been derelict and contaminated since its abandonment in 2004. Local residents, like Kala Hoover, have noted that the site has become a nuisance, attracting trouble. The village acquired the property in 2024 with the intention of transforming it. U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Michigan, has emphasized the importance of removing this 'eyesore' for the community, particularly given its connection to the Great Lakes region. Village Manager Kacey Dominguez highlighted the groundbreaking nature of this grant funding for a small town of approximately 1,100 people, seeing it as a major step for economic development.
