Consumer Reports Investigation Reveals Health Risks in Home Hair Dye Kits
A recent investigation by Consumer Reports has highlighted potential health risks associated with store-bought hair dyes, including those marketed as 'natural' or 'organic.' The analysis involved testing 21 hair dye products, including permanent, semi-permanent, and hair chalks, for substances such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), phthalates, and heavy metals. The findings revealed that all tested products contained some level of contaminants, although the concentration varied among different brands. Experts warn that long-term exposure to these chemicals could lead to health issues such as hormone disruption and an increased risk of certain cancers. Ashita Kapoor, a product safety expert at Consumer Reports, emphasized the lack of transparency regarding the ingredients in these products, urging consumers to be cautious about repeated exposure.
