Secret Service Investigates Record 10,000 Threats to President Trump and Other Officials Amid Rising Volatility
The U.S. Secret Service has reported a significant increase in threats against its protectees, including President Trump, with approximately 10,000 threats investigated in the first half of the year. This marks a substantial rise from the 7,000 threats investigated during the same period in the previous year. Secret Service Director Sean Curran highlighted the unprecedented nature of these numbers, noting that the current threat environment is the most volatile he has seen in his 24-year career. The agency is tasked with the security of about three dozen individuals, including the president, vice president, their families, and others in the presidential line of succession. Most threats originate online and are treated as credible until proven otherwise. The increase in threats comes ahead of the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner, which was postponed due to a security breach in April when a suspect attempted to attack the event.
