King County Metro to Launch RapidRide R Line in 2032, Enhancing Seattle Transit
King County Metro is set to introduce the RapidRide R Line in 2032, which will extend approximately eight miles from downtown Seattle to the Rainier Beach Link light-rail station. This new line will be the first RapidRide service in south Seattle, enhancing the busy Route 7 corridor. The project, which faced delays due to pandemic-related funding challenges, is now progressing with completed improvements in street, sidewalk, and intersection infrastructure. The RapidRide R Line aims to improve transit travel time, reliability, and rider experience through upgraded transit stations, enhanced lighting, bus-only lanes, signal upgrades, and safer pedestrian access.
