Congresswoman Stansbury Calls for Inquiry into Project Jupiter Data Center's Water Usage in New Mexico
Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury, a New Mexico Democrat, has voiced strong opposition to the Project Jupiter data center, citing state documents that indicate the facility could consume up to 2,400 acre-feet of water annually. This amount is equivalent to approximately 782 million gallons, enough to supply about 30,000 homes or irrigate 3,000 pounds of green chiles. Stansbury is demanding an immediate inquiry into the project's long-term water usage and insists that the state conduct thorough due diligence before allowing the project to proceed. She highlighted that over 30 protests are linked to the water resources the data center might access, and noted that no permits have been filed for its long-term operational water needs.
