DOJ Supports Musk's xAI in Legal Challenge Against Colorado AI Law
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has joined Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, in a legal challenge against Colorado's new AI discrimination law. The law, set to take effect on June 30, aims to regulate the use of AI in high-stakes decisions, such as employment and healthcare, by requiring transparency and bias assessments. The DOJ argues that the law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution and could distort AI model outputs by mandating discrimination based on protected characteristics. The case, filed in Denver federal court, highlights a conflict between AI developers' free speech rights and efforts to prevent algorithmic discrimination. The Colorado Attorney General's Office has not commented on the lawsuit.
