High Brush Fire Risk Persists in Connecticut Despite Recent Rain
Despite recent rainfall, parts of Connecticut continue to face a high risk of brush fires. According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, areas including Fairfield, New Haven, and southern parts of New London and Middlesex counties are at moderate risk, while the rest of the state remains at high risk. This elevated risk follows similar conditions on Monday and Tuesday, which led to a significant brush fire at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington. The fire prompted an evacuation and closure of the park, and although it was extinguished, hot spots were still detected by crews on Wednesday. The risk level has implications for brush-burning permits, which are invalidated when the risk is high, very high, or extreme, particularly within 100 feet of grassland or woodland.
