U.S. Senators Propose Bill to Support Tibet's Exiled Government Against China
A bipartisan group of U.S. Senators, led by Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and James Risch (R-Idaho), has introduced a bill aimed at supporting Tibet's exiled government, the Central Tibetan Administration, by advocating for its inclusion in international organizations such as the United Nations. The legislation seeks to counter China's influence and pressure on Tibet, labeling the Tibet-China dispute as a strategic interest for the United States. The bill also encourages U.S. allies to engage with the Central Tibetan Administration at senior levels. The proposal is co-sponsored by Senators Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and has a counterpart in the House introduced by Representatives Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Michael McCaul (R-Texas).
