Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar Emphasizes Self-Discovery Beyond Academics for Teenagers

The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) seminar is highlighted as a valuable program for teenagers to engage in self-discovery and personal growth outside of traditional academic settings. The program brings together high school students from diverse backgrounds to explore leadership, service, and self-development. Participants engage in discussions, listen to accomplished speakers, and collaborate with peers, fostering an environment where they can challenge themselves and gain new perspectives. A key aspect of HOBY is its ability to strip away pre-existing social labels and expectations, allowing students to connect with others on a blank slate. This environment encourages teenagers to redefine leadership, moving beyond notions of confidence or impressive titles to understand it as helping others succeed. The seminar aims to provide opportunities for reflection and growth that are often difficult to prioritize during a busy school year focused on academic achievements and resume building.
