Eisenhower Expressway Closure: Federal Investigation Underway After Fatal Incident
A section of the Eisenhower Expressway near Westchester, Illinois, was closed for nearly nine hours following an unspecified emergency that resulted in at least one fatality. The incident occurred on the westbound Interstate 290 between Mannheim Road and the Tri-State Tollway. Illinois state troopers, along with multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), responded to the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death of a male, whose age remains unknown, on the roadway just west of 25th Avenue in Hillside. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident, but have stated that there is no known threat to public safety. The expressway was reopened to traffic just before 7 p.m.
