Investigators Identify Cause of Deadly Eaton Fire in Los Angeles
In January 2025, Los Angeles experienced devastating wildfires, including the Eaton Fire, which resulted in 19 fatalities and significant property damage. Investigators have now determined that the fire originated from a decommissioned high-voltage power pole owned by Southern California Edison (SCE). According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, electrical arcs from the pole ignited dry vegetation beneath it, which quickly spread due to strong winds. The fire destroyed or damaged over 9,000 buildings near Pasadena and Altadena. Concurrently, the Palisades Fire in western Los Angeles claimed 12 lives and damaged more than 6,800 structures.
