Lewiston Contractor Faces Criminal Charges and $114K Civil Settlement for Fraud
Matthew Roy, a contractor from Lewiston, Maine, has been indicted on felony theft and home repair fraud charges by an Androscoggin County grand jury. The charges stem from allegations that Roy accepted over $10,000 from a homeowner for work that was never performed. Additionally, Roy has reached a civil settlement with the Maine Attorney General's Office, requiring him to pay more than $114,000 in restitution and penalties. This settlement follows complaints from over a dozen consumers, including Cam Seymour, who reported paying Roy for work that was never started. The Maine Attorney General's Office has confirmed at least 14 consumer complaints against Roy since 2021, leading to multiple civil and small claims cases. Under the settlement, Roy is prohibited from operating a contracting business in Maine for the next 10 years.
