Pramila Jayapal Secures Primary Victory, Faces Nirav Sheth in Washington's 7th District Election
Pramila Jayapal, the incumbent Democratic representative for Washington's 7th district, has won the all-party primary with 83.3% of the vote. She will face Republican Nirav Sheth, who secured 10.8% of the vote, in the upcoming general election. Jayapal, a prominent progressive leader and the first South Asian American woman elected to the U.S. House, has been a significant figure in Congress since her first election in 2016. She is backed by notable figures such as Bernie Sanders and serves as Chair Emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Nirav Sheth, a former U.S. Marine and police officer, is contesting the election for the first time, motivated by his dissatisfaction with current administrative policies.
