Wyoming Dominates National Archeology Poster Contest for 30 Years
Wyoming has consistently excelled in the National Archeology Celebration Poster Contest, sponsored by the Society for American Archeology, for the past 30 years. The state has secured a top-three award in all but six or seven instances since the contest's inception in 1996, and has claimed first prize 13 times. This annual contest is part of Archeology Awareness Month, observed every September across all 50 U.S. states, featuring public events and educational initiatives. Gwendolyn Kristy, the state coordinator for Wyoming Archeology Awareness Month, plays a pivotal role in coordinating the poster's concept, execution, printing, and distribution. This year's poster, which also serves as Wyoming's semi-official poster for America 250, features a commissioned artwork by Robert Martinez of Riverton.
