Indian Billionaire Heir Offers Sanctuary to Colombia's 'Cocaine Hippos' Facing Cull
Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has proposed to relocate 80 'cocaine hippos' from Colombia to his wildlife sanctuary in India. These hippos, descendants of animals introduced by drug lord Pablo Escobar in the 1980s, have become invasive and threaten native species in Colombia. The Colombian government plans to cull 80 of these hippos to control their population, which has grown to around 160 individuals. Ambani's proposal aims to provide a humane solution by housing the hippos at his conservation center, Vantara, which already hosts over 150,000 animals from more than 2,000 species.
