Genetic Variants in WDR4 Gene Linked to Prostate Cancer Susceptibility
A recent study published in Frontiers in Genetics has identified a specific genetic variant, rs8130270 in the WDR4 gene, as being associated with prostate cancer susceptibility. Researchers conducted differential expression analysis on mRNA levels and employed logistic regression to examine the relationship between genetic polymorphisms and prostate cancer risk. The N7-methylguanosine (m7G) signaling pathway, known to influence tumor development and immune responses, was a key area of investigation. The study found that WDR4 expression is significantly higher in prostate cancer tissues, and patients with elevated WDR4 mRNA levels showed worse overall survival times. These findings were validated in an independent population, and an expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) effect was observed between rs8130270 and WDR4 in prostate tissues. Furthermore, single-cell transcriptome sequencing data revealed differing WDR4 expression levels between normal and metastatic tissues.
