Owensboro YMCA Secures $850,000 Grant to Expand Childcare Services Amidst Local Shortage
The Owensboro YMCA has received an $850,000 grant from the Daviess County Fiscal Court to significantly expand its childcare program. This funding comes in response to Owensboro being designated a 'childcare desert,' following the closure of four local childcare centers. YMCA officials have already increased their capacity from 40 to approximately 200 children and plan further expansion. Kristi Harrison, YMCA Chief Development Officer, emphasized the community's support and the organization's commitment to addressing local childcare needs.
