Pakistan Commissions First Chinese Submarine, Enhancing Naval Capabilities
Pakistan has commissioned its first Chinese-built submarine, the Hangor, marking a significant enhancement of its naval capabilities. The submarine, an export variant of China's 039A Yuan-class, was commissioned in a ceremony in Sanya, China, attended by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and navy chief Naveed Ashraf. The Hangor-class submarine is equipped with advanced sensors, torpedoes, and anti-ship cruise missiles, and features Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, allowing it to remain submerged longer. This development is part of a $5 billion deal for eight submarines, with four being built in China and four in Pakistan.
