Study Links Low Blood Pressure to Increased Alzheimer's Risk, Challenges Traditional Views on Cardiovascular Health
A new analysis of nearly 800,000 individuals in a large U.K. database, with findings tested against a separate U.S. dataset, has revealed a strong association between low blood pressure (hypotension) and Alzheimer's disease. This research, published in the European Heart Journal, indicates that among several cardiovascular conditions and risk factors examined, low blood pressure showed the most significant link to Alzheimer's. High blood pressure, stroke, and irregular heartbeat also demonstrated associations. The study also identified overlapping genetic regions between cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's, suggesting shared biological pathways.
