Auburn University Student Found Dead in Japan After Extensive Search
The body of James 'Weston' Higginbotham, a 20-year-old student from Auburn University, was discovered by search-and-rescue volunteers in a mountainous area outside Kyoto, Japan. Weston had been missing since May 29 during a family vacation. His disappearance prompted a large-scale search operation involving over 100 police officers, K-9 units, and helicopters. The search was complicated by a storm that brought heavy rain and wind to the region. Weston was last seen on CCTV footage walking alone in the Yamashina area, heading towards a hiking trail. His family, who had been tracking his movements via a location app, lost contact when his phone was turned off, which was unusual for him. The family, along with local residents and a hired search team, continued the search after police efforts concluded, ultimately leading to the discovery of his body.
