The Democratic primary race in Maine has significantly impacted the state's Jewish community, which numbers around 19,000 individuals. The recent withdrawal of Graham Platner, a candidate with controversial views on Israel and a history of scandals, has left the community reassessing their political stance. Platner's exit, following allegations of sexual assault and a controversial tattoo, has led to the rise of Troy Jackson, a former logger and state Senate president, as the likely nominee. Jackson has adopted some of Platner's positions, such as ending what he describes as the 'genocide in Gaza' and stopping U.S. tax dollars from funding Israel's military. However, many Jewish voters are still uncertain about Jackson's stance on Israel, as his views have not been widely publicized.
