Rep. Tony Wied Advocates for Tariffs, Gold Standard, and Iran War End in Town Hall
During a recent town hall on August 31, Republican U.S. Rep. Tony Wied expressed broad support for President Trump’s policies, while also addressing various national issues, particularly those related to cost-of-living concerns. Wied responded to a caller's concerns about tariffs on Canadian products, acknowledging that they were raising costs for small businesses. He stated that he had brought similar concerns to the White House, but maintained that tariffs are part of a larger strategy to reduce the U.S. trade deficit and encourage other countries to purchase American goods. Wied also voiced his belief that the Iran War should end, despite its initial intentions regarding nuclear threats, to refocus on domestic issues. Furthermore, he lamented the U.S. departure from the gold standard, asserting that its reintroduction is necessary to combat inflation and address the national debt, which he identified as the country's most significant issue.
