Researchers Suggest Human Lifespan Could Extend to 194 Years
A recent study published in npj Aging suggests that under ideal conditions, humans could potentially live up to 194 years. The research, conducted by a team in Russia, utilized a mathematical model to explore the impact of somatic mutations on aging. These mutations, which occur after birth, accumulate over time and can impair cellular function. The study posits that if nearly all reversible aging processes were eliminated, leaving only these mutations, the median human lifespan could range from 146 to 194 years. This research aligns with growing interest in longevity interventions and challenges the notion that DNA mutations alone dictate lifespan. Experts like Dr. James Powers and Dr. R. Osvaldo Navia, who were not involved in the study, acknowledge its potential to reshape understanding of aging as a multifactorial process.
