Severe Midwest Storms Leave Over 880,000 Without Power
A powerful line of storms swept through the Midwest on Tuesday, causing widespread power outages and triggering tornado warnings. According to PowerOutage.us, over 880,000 customers were without electricity nationwide, with Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio experiencing the majority of outages. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported a severe squall line moving east at 60 mph, capable of producing tornadoes and extensive straight-line wind damage. Wind gusts exceeding 90 mph and radar-indicated rotation were observed in affected areas, including South Bend, Elkhart, and Mishawaka in Indiana, as well as Benton Harbor and Niles in Michigan. The storms disrupted infrastructure and raised concerns about further damage as they continued eastward. Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches remained active across the region into the afternoon.
