Laos Implements Program to Elevate Workforce Skills to Global Standards
Laos is actively working to enhance the skills of its workforce to meet international standards through a collaborative program with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and China. This initiative, discussed at the annual meeting of the Steering Committee of the Lao PDR Strengthening Skills Development Project in Vientiane, aims to address labor shortages and support economic growth. Key figures such as Xaybandith Rasphone, Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Vilay Vongkhaserm, Vice President of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, participated in the meeting. The program focuses on aligning workforce skills with regional and international standards, particularly in sectors like garment-making, food processing, e-commerce, marketing, and electric vehicles. Since its inception in 2019, the program has contributed to policy improvements, legal frameworks, and regional cooperation, including support for the ASEAN Skills Competition.
