European Leadership Network Flags Fabricated Ukraine Article Attributed to ECFR Senior Fellow
The London-based European Leadership Network (ELN) has issued a social media alert regarding a fabricated article circulating online. This article, which falsely bears the ELN logo, predicts 'famine and the collapse of Ukraine’s economy.' The ELN's LinkedIn post, which includes a screenshot of the fake article stamped with 'FABRICATED,' indicates that the piece was designed to resemble an ELN-hosted publication. It falsely attributes authorship to Agathe Demarais, a real ELN member and Senior Policy Fellow at the Berlin-based European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). The fabricated article utilizes Demarais's genuine name, photograph, and affiliation to lend it credibility. The ELN's alert does not specify the original source of the article's publication but mentions Facebook and TikTok as platforms where it has been circulating. It remains unclear whether only the front page or the entire article has been disseminated.
