Maui Wildfire Recovery: Health and Stability Challenges Persist
Three years after the Maui wildfires, the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study (MauiWES) reveals that recovery is ongoing but uneven. While many residents have returned to work and gained health insurance, challenges such as food insecurity, housing instability, and mental health issues persist. The study highlights the importance of food and income security, housing stability, access to care, and social support in the recovery process. Despite improvements in employment and insurance coverage, food insecurity remains high, and mental health concerns like depression and PTSD are prevalent among residents.
