President Trump Administration Cancels Key Transmission Line Projects, Citing Opposition to 'Climate-Alarmist Agenda'
On August 12, the President Trump administration canceled two significant transmission line projects in the West and a third in the Northeast. These projects, proposed by the Biden administration in December 2024, aimed to address growing power demand, reduce costs, and connect underserved communities to the regional grid. One Western project would have provided greater grid access to tribal nations in the Dakotas and Nebraska, while the Southwest Grid Connector sought to link the Western and Eastern grids, facilitating power transfer between the Midwest, Colorado, and New Mexico. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the cancellations were due to the administration's belief that 'transmission policy must serve the American people — not special interests or a climate-alarmist agenda,' criticizing the Biden administration's promotion of these corridors as a means to 'accelerate decarbonization.'
