Louisiana Expands Fortify Homes Program to Protect Against Severe Weather
Governor Jeff Landry has signed a new law that reallocates millions in excess funds to expand the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program. This initiative provides grants of up to $10,000 to homeowners for upgrading their roofs to meet standards set by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. The goal is to protect homes from hurricanes and other severe weather conditions. Since its inception in 2023, the program has awarded grants to 4,900 homeowners, with over 3,800 additional applications currently under consideration. The expansion aims to increase the number of homes fortified against extreme weather, thereby reducing potential damage and insurance claims.
