UK to Conduct Large-Scale Contrail Avoidance Trial to Combat Climate Impact
The UK air navigation service provider NATS is set to conduct a large-scale trial aimed at managing contrails over the North Atlantic. Contrails, which are non-CO2 climate-warming phenomena, have been identified as having a significant impact on climate change. The trial, scheduled for the winter months from November to February, will involve collaboration with organizations such as Google, the UK Met Office, and Cambridge University. The trial will explore methods to minimize contrail formation, including flight planning and altitude adjustments. The initiative is part of broader efforts to address aviation's environmental impact.
