Activists Demand Release of Baltimore Woman Arrested in Philippines Amid Human Rights Concerns
Human rights activists are advocating for the release of Christina Pasion, a Baltimore resident detained in the Philippines. Pasion, a community advocate, was arrested alongside local organizer Binay Serrano in Cabuyao on July 30. The Philippine government alleges their involvement with the New People’s Army, a claim denied by Pasion's family and Migrante International. The arrest has sparked protests in Baltimore, with supporters organizing letter-writing campaigns and reaching out to public officials, including U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, who has contacted the State Department on the family's behalf. Concerns about Pasion's health and the conditions of her detainment have been raised, as she was seeking medical treatment at the time of her arrest.
