Luddy School Receives NEH Grant to 3D Digitize Revolutionary War Artifacts
The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, specifically its Virtual World Heritage Lab, has been awarded a three-year grant by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). This grant is part of a larger $749,000 project, 'A New Online Archive for the Study of the American Revolution,' led by Louisville’s Frazier History Museum. The Luddy School's share of the funding is $200,000. The project aims to 3D digitize selected Revolutionary War artifacts, including military weapons and equipment, documents, currency, and everyday household items. This initiative coincides with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. Professor Gabriele Guidi, director of the Virtual Heritage Track, emphasized that this project will preserve fragile originals, reduce handling risks, and significantly broaden scholarly and public access to these historical objects and documents.
