Drought Conditions Persist Across North Carolina's Triangle Region
Drought conditions continue to affect central North Carolina, with the U.S. Drought Monitor reporting that all of Wake County remains in a moderate drought. Neighboring counties, including Durham, Orange, and Alamance, are also experiencing moderate drought, while northern areas of these counties face severe drought. Rockingham, Caswell, and Person counties are under extreme drought conditions. Despite recent rainfall improving water levels in some areas, such as Falls Lake, which serves as Raleigh's primary water source, the drought's impact remains evident. Falls Lake's water supply is at 84% capacity, while Lake Benson, Raleigh's secondary water source, is at 53%. In contrast, Durham's water supply has dropped to 49% capacity, prompting the city to remain under a Stage 2 Water Shortage Response.
