Wenatchee World Polls Voters on Election Participation and Motivations
Ahead of the primary election, Wenatchee World reporters conducted interviews with potential voters across three counties to understand their motivations for voting or abstaining. The interviews revealed a range of perspectives. Carol Willie, a retired resident of Chelan County, emphasized her lifelong commitment to voting as a civic duty, motivated by issues affecting marginalized groups. Brody Smith, a thrift store employee in Douglas County, expressed frustration with politics and a desire for candidates who support the working class and marginalized communities. Isba Almanza, a librarian, highlighted the importance of voting for those who cannot, such as her family members. Other residents, like Debby Phillips and Daryl Tomlinson, stressed the importance of voting to influence local and national policies, despite varying levels of enthusiasm for current candidates.
