Ben-Gurion University Student Develops Platform for Safe Room Access Amid Missile Threats
Tamir Cohen, a biomedical engineering student at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, has developed a website called 'Angels of the Shelter' to help Israelis find safe rooms during missile threats. The initiative connects individuals who have protected spaces in their homes with those in need of shelter. This platform was inspired by Cohen's personal experiences and the need for accessible protection against missile attacks from regions like Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, and Yemen. The website allows users to locate nearby shelters and arrange accommodations in advance, ensuring a more organized and less stressful process during emergencies. Cohen's project is part of the LEADERS program at the university, which encourages students to create impactful solutions by connecting academic learning with societal needs.
