Former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne Honored at State Capitol Memorial
Former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne was honored at a memorial service held at the Idaho Capitol. Kempthorne, who passed away at the age of 74 after battling cancer, was remembered by family, friends, and former colleagues. His flag-draped casket was carried by members of the Idaho State Police, Idaho National Guard, and the U.S. Navy. The ceremony included a 19-gun salute and a flyover by A-10 Warthogs. Current Governor Brad Little, who first met Kempthorne at the University of Idaho, praised him as warm and kind. U.S. Senator Jim Risch highlighted Kempthorne's efforts in supporting the military, including confidential operations to rescue Americans from Afghanistan. The memorial service featured eulogies from all three living Idaho governors and a performance of 'Amazing Grace' by former state Senator Cherie Buckner-Webb.
