Low Voter Turnout in Special Election for David Scott's Congressional Seat Raises Concerns
In Georgia's 13th Congressional District, a special election is underway to fill the seat of the late U.S. Representative David Scott. Despite the presence of 538,189 active voters in the district, only 8,695 had cast their votes by Thursday night, resulting in a turnout of just 1.6%. The election features five candidates, with Marcye Scott, the daughter of the late congressman, and Everton Blair, the former Gwinnett County School Board Chairman, being the most prominent. Gwinnett County, a key area for Blair, reported the lowest turnout at 1%. Blair expressed concern over the low engagement, attributing it to the summer timing and the election being the sole item on the ballot, which may have led to competing priorities for voters.
