Lloyd’s Register Grants First Submarine Approval in Principle to Hanwha Ocean, Enhancing Naval Export Capabilities
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded its first Approval in Principle (AiP) for an export submarine design to Hanwha Ocean. This approval is for Hanwha Ocean’s 2,000-tonne export submarine platform, developed independently and assessed using LR’s Submarine Assurance Framework. This framework supports navies and designers throughout the submarine's operational cycle, ensuring safety, interoperability, and design robustness. The approval process involved a global team of naval and submarine specialists and culminated in a technical workshop at Hanwha Ocean’s headquarters in Seoul. The AiP confirms that the submarine design meets internationally recognized standards, providing early-stage assurance on various technical aspects.
