Remnants of Hurricane Polo Trigger Record Rainfall and Flooding in the US Plains
The remnants of former Hurricane Polo have brought record-breaking rainfall and widespread flooding to parts of the US Southwest and Plains. From 25 September to 2 October 2026, areas such as Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska experienced heavy downpours, with some locations recording over 8 inches of rain. The National Weather Service reported that atmospheric moisture levels reached near-record highs for late September and early October. The flooding caused significant disruptions, including road closures, water rescues, and damage to infrastructure. In Lincoln, Nebraska, 6.15 inches of rain fell on 30 September, marking the city's wettest day since 1887.
