Anti-Migrant Protesters Mistake Pakistani Cricket Team for Asylum Seekers at UK Hotel
Anti-migrant protesters in Portsmouth, England, mistakenly targeted Pakistan’s Under-19 cricket team at a Marriott Hotel, believing them to be asylum seekers. The incident occurred after online reports circulated about a coach carrying young Asian men arriving at the hotel in Cosham. Approximately 40 to 50 individuals gathered outside the hotel on Tuesday evening. A Reform UK councillor, George Madgwick, intervened, speaking with hotel management and the cricket team coach to verify their identity. Upon confirmation that the group was indeed the Pakistani cricket team, the councillor informed the protesters, who then dispersed within five minutes. This event follows previous anti-migrant demonstrations in the Portsmouth area, highlighting heightened tensions surrounding immigration in Britain. The prime minister has called for a police review regarding their handling of these protests.
