Upper Township in Cape May County, New Jersey, has experienced a significant data breach that exposed sensitive personal information of its residents. The breach, which occurred on October 5, 2025, was discovered during an investigation that revealed unauthorized access to files containing names, Social Security numbers, driver's license information, financial data, and more. Township officials became aware of suspicious network activity on December 8, 2025, and promptly initiated a comprehensive investigation, which concluded on April 13, 2026. Although there is no evidence of misuse of the information, residents are advised to monitor their credit reports and account statements for any unusual activity. The township has shut down affected systems and is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services to those impacted.
